New Rules to Keep Wisconsin's Waters Clean

Manure Managment Prohibitions:
No Manure storage facility overflow.
No unconfined manure piles within 300 feet of a stream or 1,000 feet of a lake.
No direct runoff to state waters from feed lots or stored manure.
No unlimited livestock access to state waters if adequate sod is not maintained.

Reducing runoff throughout the watershed:

The steps listed above are those required for agriculture. However, runoff can become polluted from many other sources - streets, parking lots, urban and residential areas, and construction sites.. just to name a few. Wisconsin's new rules address each of these potential sources and require safeguards to ensure that the water entering our streams and lakes is fresh and pure.
