NU00-34 Project Title:

Trout Creek Nutrient Management Initiative

Current Status:

  Active

Project Summary:

This project will facilitate the development of whole-farm nutrient management plans on approximately 30 farms, encompassing 9,000 or more acres. This will occur within a subwatershed of the Lower Peshtigo River that has been locally rated as being a high-priority site for remediation of surface water degradation. This initiative will result in a lowered risk of surface water degradation within this critical  subwatershed, as it will reach approximately half of the active farms operating within the watershed boundaries. It will also result in improved profitability for the participating farms. Lastly, this initiative will train the producers themselves how to correctly soil sample, how to write their farm's nutrient management plans, and the reasons for taking the time necessary to do all the steps correctly.

Main Activities:

  • Farm visits
  • Nutrient Management Plans/Soil tests
  • Workshops held utilizing the Farmer Education Nutrient Management Training curriculum
