NU00-35 Project Title:

Nutrient Management Farmer Education Program

Current Status:

  Active

Project Summary:

In 1998, Jefferson County initiated its own nutrient management program to help Jefferson and Waukesha County farmers increase their understanding of both nutrient management and the impacts of nonpoint source pollution on our water resources. This proposal serves as a continuation and expansion of this successful program. The education program will help farmers develop their own nutrient management (NM) plans and accelerate the successful implementation of quality nutrient management practices across Jefferson and Waukesha Counties. Participants in the NM program will be selected based on several criteria with the greatest emphasis on farmers that over-apply nutrients. The project managers will also make a concerted effort to contact and include under-served farmers (minorities and women) in both counties.
