NU00-37 Project Title:

Nutrient Management On-Farm Education

Current Status:

  Active

Project Summary:

This project would include the protocol outlined in the "Nutrient Management Education and Implementation Program" with several additional on-farm elements. These include: manure spreader calibration where necessary; aerial photo site review of manure spreading restrictions as per the Manitowoc County Manure Ordinance; and individual instruction in completing Form 590EZ. This project was successfully piloted locally with 15 dairymen in 1999. Evaluations suggested that understanding of and ability to implement recommended nutrient management practices improved significantly with a combination of group and individual instruction.

Main Activities:

  • Farm Practice Inventory
  • Role of Nitrogen and Phosphorus in Nutrient Management workshops
  • On-farm visits - completing 590 plan reviewed
