NU01-34 Project Title:

Nutrient Management Farmer Education Program

Current Status:

  Active

Project Summary:

This project will enable Polk County farmers to develop
nutrient management plans that will protect and improve water quality. The goal of the project is to enroll 15 farms that average about 200 crop acres per farm. These farms will be surveyed for their current manure application and crop fertilizing practices by staff of the UWEX and LWRD departments. Farm conservation plans will be updated as needed and new conservation plans will be developed if none existed before. Soil testing will be required of each participating farm operation if prior tests are over three growing seasons old.
