NU01-38 Project Title:

Nutrient Management: Energy for your crop, savings in your wallet.

Current Status:

  Active

Project Summary:

Ozaukee County has six existing 590 plans on file. Another six are to be developed this winter. We are proposing to get all the existing operators with plans on file and at least the six operators who need a plan developed this winter to come in and talk about how to develop/implement a plan for N, P & K. The hope is to have a UW-Extension specialist involved along with the agricultural teacher from Lakeshore Technical College. The landowners crop consultant/co-op would also be encouraged to attend. After we have complied a list of interested operators, the first step would be to get all the new operators soils tested. Once soils have been tested, we would have a group discussion on how to develop and maintain a 590 plan. The next step would be to meet with operators on a one-on-one basis. The hope is to have the operators feel comfortable with the 590 plan. The last step would be to monitor the success of the plan every year with a visit after planting.
