Wisconsin Stormwater Regulations Subchapter I – Municipal Storm Water Discharge Permits NR216.01 Communities that serve stormwater services to more than 50,000 persons require a (WPDES) Municipal stormwater permit. Municipalities in the Great Lakes Area of Concern shall obtain a permit. The WDNR is in the process of reviewing and issuing these permits to the various communities. These permits will give the WDNR the authority to issue violations or for serious instances refer to the DOJ. In the past many permitted or soon to be permitted communities had very good stormwater ordinances. For some reason many of these communities failed to enforce their ordinances. These new WPDES permits will now force those communities to better manage their stormwater or face possible violations. 32 municipalities in the Milwaukee River Basin require a WPDES municipal storm water permit. Of those 32 communities 15 communities have received their permits. |
