  Wisconsin’s Managed Forest Law (MFL) is a deferred property tax program that provides an incentive to private landowners across the state to sustainably manage their forests or woodlands.   This 16-page primer covers seven steps to a successful timber harvest to consider after a landowner has a management plan and decides to harvest timber. Beginning with marking boundaries and identifying trees to be cut, the primer continues through appraising the value; locating roads, trails and landings; soliciting bids and selecting the winning bid; preparing the timber sale contract; monitoring the sale; and post-harvest administration and activities.
